A bed on the beach (well, almost!)

  1. Just three steps and you're on the beach of Marina del Cantone
  2. A delicious fish supper at the "Pappone"' restaurant
  3. The spectacular views of the sea surrounding Nerano

Experience the unique charm of staying in a historic charterhouse right on the beach of the Cantone Bay in Nerano, the picturesque fishingmen's quarter of Massa Lubrense on Italy's Sorrento Peninsula. Here you'll discover that the tradition of warm Italian hospitality is alive and well at Hotel La Certosa, a romantic and intimate three star accommodation in a 15th century former monastery.

Once a Convent, Today a Hotel

Privacy and peace are what you can expect at Hotel La Certosa, a convent dating from the 1400's which sits directly on the beach at Marina del Cantone. An ideal spot for couples on a romatic get-away to celebrate a special occasion or for families looking for a slow-paced, relaxing atmosphere. The building still preserves some of its original architecture, including the arches on the facade, the upper storey windows, the vaulted ceilings, and the majolica tiled floors.

Hotel La Certosa has 16 large and bright rooms, furnished in the classic Mediterranean style and including all the modern comforts. The ensuite bathrooms are decorated with the colorful local ceramic tiles typical of this area of the coast, and the informal vibe makes guests feel immediately at home. Each room is bathed in sunlight streaming through the large windows overlooking the water. Some rooms also have a small private terrace perfect for relaxing at the end of the day while watching the sun set over the sea.

The Perfect Location for a Seaside Vacation

One of the advantages of Hotel La Certosa is its strategic location. Just steps from the water, the pebble beach is a short flight of stairs down and guests can use the loungers and umbrellas reserved for La Certosa to bask in the sun and take a dip in the water.

A Restaurant Over the Water

The restaurant at Hotel La Certosa is a treat for the eyes and palate. Here you can gaze out over the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean from your table while you sample some of the most traditional dishes from southern Italy. Fresh fish and seafood, pastas, local fruit and vegetables, soft mozzarella...all the best local specialties served against an unforgettable backdrop.

The menu features dishes prepared with the catch of the day, and the bounty of the sea is the center of attention at both lunch and dinner. Make sure you try the "spaghetti alla Nerano" with zucchini, basil, and parmesan and caciocavallo cheese...a local specialty! The menu is paired with an ample wine list including labels from Capri, the Amalfi Coast, and the Sorrento Peninsular, including DOCG Fiano and Greco, DOC Falanghina, and DOC Aglianico.

The Terrace, Where It's Summer All Year ROund

One of the most beautiful corners of La Certosa is the stunning terrace overlooking the bay. Here, the balmy sea air gives the impression of an endless summer, and guests gather here each afternoon and evening for a drink, a quiet hour with a good book, a leisurely chat with friends, or a light snack from the bar. From here, the beach is just a few steps down...

Day Trips from Hotel La Certosa

You can spend your entire stay simply relaxing at Hotel La Certosa, or head out each morning to discover all the beauty of the nearby coastline and the cultural sites and scenic countryside just minutes away. Explore some of the most famous sights in southern Italy by land or sea, then unwind each evening at your coastal retreat.

From Nerano, there are a number of hiking and walking paths through the park of Punta Campanella and the Bay of Ieranto. Just 50 meters from the hotel, buses depart for Massa Lubrense and Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi. There is also a parking lot for guests arriving by car.

We were at the water’s edge. Watching the boats come and go. The weather was raining outside. We were warm and dry and had the best service. Meal was 10/10 table service was excellent. And we were made to feel like family. We would recommend this as your first choice.

An Italian experience like no other...

This charming hotel converted from a former monastery is an absolute gem! Situated as it is you really couldn't get closer to the sea, personally I think the setting in this beautiful bay is just perfect. It's a great place for swimming, there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas which are free for guests to use on the private section of the pebble beach; Massimo is on hand to erect and locate your umbrella and he is the lifeguard as well, keeping an eye on swimmers etc. We had a large room to the side/rear of the building, equipped with a large double bed and two singles, a lovely bathroom and a terrace with two loungers, a table and two chairs. The room was air conditioned and had a fridge. Daily maid service ensured that the room was spotlessly clean and fresh towels available on request. The food offer is excellent, everything fresh and cooked to order; the menu is mainly fish and other seafood, all of which is beautifully presented although there two meat options; we only had the lamb which was delicious (order sides of sliced baked potatoes) but the beef we saw being served looked superb. You must have the Spaghettone Del Nerano at least once during your stay, I think I had it three times during our 11 night stay (once for lunch). And now to the staff...what can I say, they made our stay like home from home, lovely people, nothing was too much ask for; got to mention Alessandro who kindly rescued us when we became stranded in Sorrento one evening! He also came in early on the morning of our departure to make sure we had some delicious coffee before being picked up, he is a really nice guy. I must mention Antonio, full of fun and very attentive, he is also very knowledgeable about dishes served in the restaurant; if you come here you're going to make friends with Alfonso who runs the hotel and all of his staff; honestly, after a couple of days we felt like family; they even surprised my wife with a birthday tiramisu one evening! We were sad to be leaving but very happy to have stayed at this great place and met such lovely people...we will return but until next time Ciao Regazzi!

Vacanza rilassante in famiglia
