There are ferries that run from Positano and Amalfi to Capri from April to October. During the rest of the year, you must depart from Sorrento to take a ferry to Capri. Routes from Positano and Amalfi can be suspended in case of rough seas. Boat tours from the Amalfi Coast to Capri depart from Positano, Praiano, and Amalfi.

You can choose between private and group tours. Private tours include the exclusive use of a boat all to yourself. Group tours are generally with about 12 passengers at a time. Seven- or eight-hour tours include a sail around the island and a stop to explore on land. Four-hour tours do not include time on land.

Group tours stop to visit the Blue Grotto only if the wait to enter isn't too long. At certain times of the day and year, the queue to enter can stretch two or three hours. On private boat tours, you can decide whether to wait or not. In either case, tickets to enter the Blue Grotto must be purchased separately at the cave entrance in cash.
