Chez Black

The food is passable but unremarkable. Prices are rather inflated, typical of tourist traps. Service is lacking in professionalism and training. A notable incident involved Yuri, who publicly scolded a colleague over an order issue instead of addressing it privately. It reflects a clear lack of decorum and basic hospitality skills.

On a day trip from Sorrento, we thought we would try this restaurant for lunch as my wife has a torn ligament in the back of her knee and unable to negotiate the many steps leading up from the beach front. Staff came across as quite arrogant and as we had a dinner reservation at 18:00 only wanted something small so decided to share a pizza, is that all was the reply from waiter in an abrupt tone. We asked for no olives or capers on the tuna pizza and no olive oil. The waiter informed that we must have olive oil as that’s how the tuna comes from the tin ! It arrived and honestly I could have and have, made better myself. Pizza base with a tomato spread and some random spots of tuna, yes no cheese, all for 22 euros. Our wine and beer arrived before the pizza but they had to be reminded that the bottled water we ordered had not. Plenty of waiters working, some very busy, but a lot of standing around talking going on with some of the others. Pizza tasted ok, ate it and left wishing we would have gone elsewhere. We didn’t eat many pizza’s on our 10 day trip, but this won the award for the worst and most expensive

This restaurant is trash. Thankfully they sat us at the front (which I hear they don’t do if you’re ugly!), but the food was garbage. Service was ok but food is irredeemable. If you’re on vacation, you only have limited nights to enjoy great Italian food. Do not waste a meal here.

Visited Chez Black for 2 out of my 3 days in Positano — and for good reason! The food was outstanding, the service absolutely impeccable, and then there’s the ever-famous, ever-handsome Mr. Black himself. He sits proudly in front of his restaurant each day, enjoying the well-earned fruits of his labor. Well done, Mr. Black — it was such a delight to meet you! Chez Black is truly a Positano gem. 🌊🍝🇮🇹
