Chez Black

After a stormy and rainy morning in Positano, we finished a museum tour and headed to Chez Black. We had heard this restaurant was recommended and it did not disappoint. We were immediately seated with a lovely view of the beach. We kept it simple and only got a pizza with their house red. Loved it!

Tijdens ons verblijf in Positano hebben we twee keer bij Chez Black gegeten één keer voor de lunch en één keer voor het diner. Beide keren was de prijs-kwaliteitverhouding goed. De pizza’s waren heerlijk, de drankjes lekker verfrissend, en de sfeer aan het strand maakt het helemaal af. Het restaurant is mooi ingericht en straalt die typische Positano-charme uit. Wel betaal je €8 tafelkosten, wat aan de hoge kant is, maar dat hoort er in deze omgeving een beetje bij. Er is veel personeel aanwezig; ze zijn vriendelijk, al zijn ze soms ook wat druk met elkaar aan het praten. Al met al een fijne ervaring en zeker een aanrader als je in Positano bent en zin hebt in een lekkere pizza met uitzicht op zee!

Our recent dining experience at your establishment, which initially appealed due to its uniquely quirky decor, unfortunately did not meet our expectations regarding value and culinary execution. While the service was notably efficient, with our dishes delivered very quickly, the speed led us to feel that the priority was rapid table turnover rather than careful preparation. This impression was ultimately reflected in the quality of the meal. On a positive note, we appreciated the accommodation of a gluten-free option for one member of our party. However, in my opinion the pizza itself presented several significant issues: the mozzarella was noticeably undercooked, bordering on raw in some areas, and the dish was excessively oily. Furthermore, the accompanying mixed salad was uninspired and bland. The primary concern was the value. A total bill of approx €90 for one pizza, one gnocchi dish, a simple mixed salad, a soft drink and a single glass of wine appears grossly disproportionate to the quality of the food and preparation standards we experienced. Finally, we observed that the some of the service staff’s uniforms were visibly soiled. Maintaining high standards of presentation and staff hygiene is crucial in a dining environment and this observation negatively impacted our overall impression.
