A tour of Pompeii is a must during your vacation in Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast. The best-preserved ancient Roman city on earth will captivate you with its villas, streets, baths, and shops from thousands of years ago.
Getting to Pompeii from Positano isn't easy, so opt for a guided tour that includes a transfer to avoid the stress and crowds of public transportation.
FAQ - Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to see Pompeii?
It would take more than a day to see the entire vast ruins of Pompeii. The minimum amount of time you should set aside to visit a few houses and the Roman Forum in the heart of the ancient city is two hours. More than three or four hours can be too tiring, especially in the summer with soaring temperatures and little shade.
How do I get to Pompeii and Herculaneum from the Amalfi Coast?
There is no direct public transportation from the Amalfi Coast to Pompeii or Herculaneum. You need to reach Sorrento and take the Circumvesuviana train from there. Taking a tour that includes transportation from Positano or Amalfi is a much less stressful and time-consuming option.
Can I see both Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day?
Yes, though we don't recommend doing so. By trying to fit both sites in one day, you would have to rush your visits. Instead, see these two archaeological treasures on two separate days to explore at a slower pace.
