Over hyped and definitely not worth it

The food was good. Well cooked and seasoned. But not spectacular. 4/5 for the food
The service was not great at all. First of all, if you have a reservation for later in the afternoon, you must take the last boast shuttle by 1pm. Between 1-4pm there is no boat shuttle from the Positano marina to the restaurant. At 4pm,the shuttle begins again from the restaurant back to main land. This was not communicated to us. Therefore we were left at the marina in Positano and had to pay 40 euros to take a private boat taxi to the restaurant. Speaking of communication, this brings me to my second point. They NEVER pick up their phone, therefore you can't even ask instructions or speak to anyone at the restaurant while waiting. Locals also agree with this point and have heard many stories of disappointmented tourists. Third, once we got there, we were rushed by the staff to get seated, and then were not attended to for about 20 mins. Nor was water brought to the table for the entirety of the meal. Furthermore, you're being served by gentlemen that don't appear or smell pleasant at all. Very unkept. Food did come out quite quickly once orders were finally taken.
Pricing: if you want to use a day bed to lay down at their beach, it's 25 euros per bed and does not include an umbrella. Also, when we booked online, they charge a 30 euro deposit per head which was not applied to our total bill, nor was it reversed on our credit card. Other's who were lucky enough to get a reservation via a local calling for them did not pay this deposit fee and therefore did not incur an extra 30 euro per person fee.
Overall I think this place is wayyyyyy overhyped due to social media influencers and for the "experience" of going to a restaurant only accessible by water. Definitely would not recommend, nor go back.

A complex experience

D Adolfo is situated about 10-15 mins from the Positano ferry dock by boat. The Restuarant picks you up on the ferry dock where the small boats pick up and drop off. The left side of ferry dock looking at the ocean, right hand side if you getting off a ferry. We looked at it as an experience but didn’t find it relaxing. You MUST read the instructions in detail as they not straight forward and if you don’t follow them carefully it can cause you logistical issues . The shuttle starts around 11.00 am to pick up and stops from 1-4 pm and the website says they start to return around 4pm but they started returns around 3pm. We found the staff very nice to deal with, while the whole operation works very unstructured which makes does not make it relaxing at all. We expected a nice relaxing day but we ended up finding it all rushed We arrived from Sorrento by ferry and had to wait about 30 mins for the shuttle there is no signage so you have to figure out where to wait which explained above. The boat only takes 10 people and there is no structure so who ever gets on gets on. They have a second boat so the driver called for it to come why they don’t have both of them running is not clear. Beach is lovely and we found Restuarant nice not cheap and not uniquely special but you going for the experience. My advise on food selection is to order one of the whole fishes , we didn’t which was our mistake. My advise if you staying in Positano it is worth the experience but not a must do.

Lovely food and vibe

We had a long, multi-family lunch and it was simply perfect. The kids got to play on the beach, the adults sip their wine. Delicious food just kept coming out. Wonderful laidback vibe.
