5 star hotel on the Amalfi Coast

  1. The timeless charm of a medieval convent on the Amalfi
  2. The infinity pool directly above the sea of Amalfi Coast
  3. A mix of Mediterranean luxury and ancient, Arab-influenced architecture

If you're a sucker for old world charm but, at the same time, can't resist a bit of contemporary design and technology, you'll love Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi. This stylish 5 star establishment, in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, occupies a finely restored 12th century monastery complete with exquisite Arab-Norman cloisters, dating back to the 13th century.

A sophisticated combination of the building's Moorish architecture and elements of ultra modern interior design characterizes the hotel's spacious bedrooms and suites, all of which enjoy marvelous views of the sea surrounding Amalfi.

Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi's infinity swimming pool is located on a terrace directly above the sea. Similarly breathtaking views can be seen from the Monk's Walk and the Loggia. Those wishing to combine a holiday by the sea with some well deserved pampering, will no doubt spend hours luxuriating in the hotel's wellness center, equipped with Turkish bath, massage corner and gym.

Guests dining on the panoramic terrace of the "Dei Cappuccini" restaurant choose from an excellent selection of traditional local dishes and typical Italian specialties. The pool bar is the perfect place in which to enjoy a refreshing drink or a quick snack.

Cycling, horse riding, windsurfing, diving: any number of sports can be practiced in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Grand Hotel Convento is only a few minutes away from the historic center of Amalfi from where guests who enjoy walking can head into the spectacular Valle delle Ferriere and sea lovers can set off on an unforgettable boat trip, sailing along the Amalfi Coast.

Five Star hotel built into the side of a mountain with unparalleled service

Top notch hotel. I've stayed at many Four Seasons around the world and this hotel was as good as or better than any of them. It is a converted monastery where an order of monks lived until they sold the property. Since it is a converted monastery, it has a very unusual configuration. Elevator from floor one to floor two and then separate elevator to check in, and rooms. Even though unusual, it added to the uniqueness of the experience. I wish I knew a little more about the history of the monks and why they sold the place. However, it did not take away from the beauty of the hotel. It is literally built into the side of a mountain so the views are breath-taking whether from the restaurant or from our hotel room. Even though built into the side of a mountain, it has all of the amenities of a five star hotel. It has a casual restaurant and also a Michelin star restaurant. It has a very nice pool with plenty of seating around it where one can enjoy drinks. I am still flabbergasted as to how they were able to build a pool into the side of a mountain. I am guessing that the order of monks did not have such a nice pool available to them. The service from all of the hotel staff was nonpareil. They couldn't do enough for my me and my wife and her two children. They made sure we got into and out of town safely. It's a short ride on a courtesy van that runs all day until 11PM. Even though the van stops at 11:00, the hotel staff were kind enough to come and pick us up in town after 11:00. We got wrapped up in a nice dinner in town and lost track of time. There was no feeling of imposition on their part. They seemed quite happy to do it for us. Our travel agent booked the hotel for us. We asked for top notch boutique hotels and luckily she selected this one. My experience on the Amalfi Coast could not have been any more enjoyable. Much of my enjoyment is the result of staying at such a nice hotel with an attentive staff with a dedication to making my experience enjoyable.

A magnificent retreat, far from the crowd and bling bling, at the top of Amalfi. An extremely kind staff, a delicious cuisine at the gourmet restaurant, a very and luxuous comfortable suite on the 3rd floor of the building with sea view. Heaven on earth.

5* Luxury in an incredible setting

A truly magnificent hotel. Our 3rd time back but our first under the Anantara brand and what a difference. From the moment you arrive the hotel staff cannot do enough for you. We had a beautiful room with a balcony over looking the Amalfi port, a view that you can never tire of. The room was fully equipped with luxury Acqua di Parma toiletries, tea/coffee, a clothes steamer, hair dryer. The hotel has such interesting history and to wander around the monastery is breathtaking. There are 2 restaurants serving exquisite cuisine, La Locanda having an outdoor kitchen with BBQ grill and pizza oven and Dei Cappuccini is a fine dining restaurant with an outstanding chef. Breakfast is included and you won't go hungry, the choices are phenominal. The infinity pool at the end of a stunning walkway under beautiful flowers and lemon trees is gorgeous. Very comfortable sun chairs, plenty of soft towels & there is even suncream available if you forget your own. The pool staff are very attentive with complimentary water frequently being served and little treats like lemon sorbet is offered too. A peaceful area to relax. The Spa is nice and recently refurbished with a variety of treatments on offer. I also liked it that the General Manager Estelle was frequently seen engaging with all her staff, who seemed very happy, an indicator her managerial skills are working. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, its location is beautiful, the food is excellent, the staff are incredible too. There is a shuttle service to Amalfi or steep steps which could be tricky if your are a bit unsteady on your feet. And lastly if your are looking for a fun experience whilst you are there book the Heaven Gardens Cooking Class ..... it's a must.

We originally visited this hotel 10 years ago for our honeymoon, then we came back to celebrate our 10th anniversary

The hotel was just as wonderful as it was 10years ago. It was so good to be back. The staff, as always were exceptional, although the gentleman who took our order for dinner seemed a bit pushy and we felt rushed to make a decision. I also thought he told me the lobster dish came with spaghetti, which it didn’t. It came with thick tube pasta which wasn’t enjoyable at all. For the price of the dish, I was left very disappointed that I couldn’t eat it all. Apart from that, the rest of our stay and the staff were fantastic, especially the young lady, on guest services desk, I think her name was Simonetta. (Apologies if I got this wrong!) We were especially touched by their heartfelt gift of a soap dish and soap bar as a present to us for our anniversary. It is a beautiful hotel in a spectacular location. Cannot wait to visit again one day.

From the heights of its cliff-top position, the Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi dominates the whole of the Bay of Amalfi.
The hotel is located just outside the small seaside town of Amalfi, on the spectacular and often hair-raising SS163 coastal road, also known as the "Blue Ribbon" or "Amalfi Drive".
The historic center of Amalfi with its magnificent cathedral lies within minutes of the hotel as do the majority of the Amalfi Coast's most famous towns, such as Atrani, Furore, Praiano, Conca dei Marini, Positano, Ravello, Maiori, Minori and Vietri sul Mare.
