Visiting the Amalfi Coast in November

How to enjoy the best of the coast in the autumn

Visiting the Amalfi Coast in November

November is not the best time of year to visit the Amalfi Coast, especially if it's your first time. After the All Saints Day holiday at the beginning of the month, most businesses close up for the winter and reopen at Easter.

  • Average low temperature (in Celsius): 13° C

What to Do in November

Our recommendation is to book a hotel in Sorrento if you are visiting in November, where most shops and restaurants stay open all year round. From there, you can take trips to the town on the Amalfi Coast, the island of Capri, and the archaeological sites at Pompeii and Herculaneum based on the weather forecast each day.

On clear days, you can visit Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello...all of which are particularly pleasant during this quiet month in which you can stroll the lanes in perfect solitude. Driving yourself from town to town in complete freedom is easy in November, as traffic is much lighter than during the summer months and finding parking is easier.

If you would rather not drive, the bus is pleasant this month when the summer crowds have dispersed. Ferries on the Amalfi Coast do not run in November, however.

Getting Around the Amalfi Coast

What to Do When it Rains

If rain is in the forecast, the best strategy is to head to Naples and dedicate a day exploring its churches and museums, with a break for a real Neapolitan pizza!

You can also visit the Correale Museum and Inlaid Wood Museum in Sorrento.

What to Do in Sorrento When it Rains

On the Amalfi Coast, the town that offers the most options for a rainy day is Amalfi. You can walk beneath the porticoes and visit the Amalfi Cathedral complex. Stop for a pastry and espresso at Pasticceria Pansa, and then visit the paper museum.
