You can definitely visit the Amalfi Coast on your own, especially if you have a few days to dedicate to the coast and have rented a scooter. If you are getting around by bus, travel times will be longer and more challenging. The towns along the Amalfi Coast are all small but in many cases, including for Positano, the bus stop is located quite far from the town center and you need to walk first downhill and then back up to catch the bus. The best way to get around between April and October is by ferry.
If you have just one day or are visiting from Naples or Sorrento, we recommend booking a tour. This is the only way to visit Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello in a single day. We strongly suggest joining a boat tour from the Amalfi Coast to Capri. There are both private and group boat tours to choose from.
